Rotary Children's Library association was the dream project to commemorate Rotary International's Golden Anniversary.
The R.C.L.A has the rare distinction of being the first of its kind in the then Mysore state exclusively meant for children. The origin of R.C.L.A itself is most significant. To commemorate Rotary International Golden Anniversary during 1955 Rotary club of Mysore constituted a committee consisting of Rotarians A.C Devegowda (President), B.V. Lingaraju (Secretary), Dr. Shadakshara Swamy (Treasurer) and 8 other prominent committee members to concert measures for the celebration of 50th Anniversary of Rotary in a befitting manner. The Committee decided among the other things to establish a children's Library exclusively for children in Mysore city.
His highness Sri Jayachamaraja Wodeyar the then Maharaja of Mysore consented to be a patron in chief and donated a sum of Rs. 4000 in the name of his family members. Rtn. A.C Devegowda showed keen interest in the library and due to his effort a site measuring about 309 x 209 in the Biligiri Lawns was granted free of cost by CITB to Rotary Club of Mysore for starting the children Library on 9-8-1955. The Library was initially started on 25th February 1956 in a rented building (Scout Head Quarters). The R.C.A.L was registered on September 26th 1957.
Rtn. A.C. Dewegowda, even after his transfer to Bangalore, showed lot of interest in R.C.L.A and due to his persistant effort he could procure a grant of Rs. 25000/- towards the building fund during the period 1958-1960. The R.C.L.A also received Grant from Social Welfare Board and the Mysore city Municipality. In 1962 the R.C.L.A. building work was completed.
Under the Dynamic Leadership of the President PHF. PDG. F.K. Irani, the R.C.L.A. took a new turn. They started the present prestigious Ideal Jawa Rotary School, which we can boast of as one of the best school in Karnataka.
Before R.C.L.A. celeberates its Golden Jubliee on 25th February, 2006, the present Managing Committee plans to complete the Multimedia Theater project with the help of Rotary Mysore, and also the Dream Project of Doll Museum.
During the period 1998-2000, 45 members have enrolled as life members. The Managing Committee ha extended the facility of using the Library to the children of Life Members.
