INNER WHEEL CLUB OF MYSORE

The wheel within the wheel has completed 30 rotations. The Inner Wheel Club of Mysore was inaugurated in 1966, has been an active partner in service. With an initial membership of 12, the current membership is 57. The Club involved in dedicated service in various avenues specially in Women, child Welfare and Education. Major involvement has been in improving the standard of living of members in the lepers colony. About 6 houses were constructed, water connections to the colony were provided, a number of coconut saplings were planted, a swing for the children and a sewing machine for a lady inmate were all provided by them. Donating Food grains and clothing to the inmates is a regular feature. Donating Uniforms to Government School Children, Teaching aids to Schools, organising sports events, holding music and drawing competitions for School Children, visiting Orphanages, home for the aged, home for the mentally retarded and attending to their simple requirements are routine projects undertaken by the Inner Wheel Club of Mysore. The Club has also contributed towards two low cost houses in Kenchanahally for tribals.

The Club adopted "Karuna Gruha", an Institution run by Janapada Seva Trust for physically handicapped Children at Melakote in 1967. This involved taking the Children for Picnics, conducting health camps, donating blankets and clothing etc. The entire floor of the dinning room was laid by the Club. The members have also donated a wet grinder to their Kitchen.

The Club Instituted rolling Cups and Shields for the Best School in Mysore and also for the toppers in SSLC examinations. Two Scholarships were instituted for two deserving students to continue their further Education after completing SSLC. The adoption of Paduvarahalli School located in a backward area was a major Project. One of the members helped in the overall improvement of the School.

The Inner Wheel Club of Mysore has the unique distinction of being the First Club in the district to have its own meeting hall at Rotary center. This hall was set up during 1996-97 at a cost of RS.30,000/-.

This club has the credit of having 9 District Chairpersons present in its fold over a period of 25 years. It has won the Best Club Award too. Every year National functions like Independence day, Republic day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Teachers day etc., are celebrated by distributing sweets, fruits, food packets etc., to children and Honoring deserving Teachers. At present the Club has 13 Teachers in its fold. A quarterly bulletin is being published, Inner Wheel Club members also lend a helping hand in many major Rotary projects.

ROTARACT CLUBS

Though younger among partners in service, the Rotractors in no way lag behind when it comes to serving the community. The Rotaract club of Mysore started in 1972 and can take pride in being the senior most and active club in the district. The Club had the privilege of 5 DRRs including one lady DRR and a Rotractor PHF.

The club has hosted 6 District conferences. It is the only Club in the district who has hosted:

  • National event-multi-district convention in 1984.

  • International event-7th South Asia DRRs meet in 1995.

The Club has also the distinction of being adjudged the Best Club in the district on many occasions. The Club started initially as an institution based, it was converted to a community based Club in the 70's .Of the number of projects executed impeccably, noteworthy among them are fashion shows; Treasure hunt, various competitions to bring out talents in Schools and colleges, village medical camps, mass marriage, career guidance programs, time management programs, vocational service day, etc,. Contribution to R.I through parent Club for Polio Plus, observing International Solitary Day to show commitment to world peace, releasing a Souvenir of Goodwill jointly with Rotaract Club of Lahore, Pakistan and Narayanguni, Bangladesh, to reinforce International friendship, are major achievements in the avenue of International service.

Emphasis on club service is through programmes to boost fellowship and awareness of society among members. All these have served in brightening the Rotaract Lamp in society, encouraging its youth to take advantage of its aims and ideals.

Rotarians of Rotary Mysore inspired another group of young people from the National Institute of Engineering, Mysore, to form a new Rotaract Club this year with 80 members.

Rotaract Club of hearing impaired at the JSS Polytechnic for physically handicapped was officially inaugurated. The media of communication in the Club is the Sign language. This Rotaract is unique and first of its kind in South India.

INTERACT CLUB

The first Interact Club was started in the year 1971-72 at Hardwicke High School under the guidance of Rtn.S.G.Sanath Kumar.

At present there are two Clubs which are very active:

  • Interact Club of Ideal Jawa Rotary High School with 300 members

  • Interact Club of Sri Cauvery High School with 75 members.
